My sound card is an 82801DB and it doesn't work under Redhat 8.

It comes as part of an Intel motherboard.

Intel say that "AC'97 audio for Intel motherboards using ICH4 (82801DB) requires kernel 2.5.11 or later," but Redhat 8 uses 2.4.18-14.

Then Intel say, "Some users have had better luck using a third-party driver for onboard audio, such as those from ALSA".

But I can't find my sound card in your list.

Could someone help please?

I suspect what they (Intel) mean is to use the latest ALSA from CVS to get a working driver for your Intel motherboard. It might be a new audio device. How to compile a new kernel with the latest ALSA code from CVS is a bit tricky if you've never done it before, and the easiest way is to probably use the new 2.5 kernels and compile ALSA into the kernel itself (not as modules). You could look at AlsaBuild for some help too.

I have a c-media 9738, which has no specific driver for it, but it is an ac'97 card, so I just use the snd-intel8x0 driver for ac'97 compatible cards, and it mostly works fine.
