I like your solution of a "dynamic" default device, that can be modified with environment variables, and I think this is worth to have its own article. As you are familiar with the topic, could you create a new page, maybe How to have different default devices for different applications or Default device controled by an environment variable, move the according content from Low-pass filter for subwoofer channel (HOWTO) to the new page and maybe even extend it a little? That'd be really great! If you have any questions, just leave a note here or on my talk page. Greets, Ingo
