Here are a list of linux based audio and/or video based media CD and downloadable distributions, and also content. Some links taken from Dave Phillips site.

Tons of audio apps, livecd & distros. Mainly responsible for maintaining DeMuDi - A Custom Debian Distribution. Does not work well with hardware requiring proprietary code. Relatively quick and straightforward to install and upgrade. Includes a full range of GPL music software and will run on most x86 machines. Highly useable.

It has a limited selection of software designed to get you up and running as quickly as possible. Includes support for VSTs and DSSIs (synth plug-ins) and is designed to work well on an existing Windows box. Requires 800MHz+ CPU and plenty of memory.
